Pharmaceutical Packaging Materials and Medication Safety: A Mini-Review
Abstract
Pharmaceutical packaging materials play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficacy of medications. Common materials include glass, plastics, metals, and rubber, each with unique properties. However, risks such as migration, microbial contamination, and poor barrier performance may compromise medication safety. This review summarizes the impact of packaging materials on medication safety, discusses recent regulatory updates in China, and highlights research progress and emerging technologies like nanomaterials, green packaging materials and intelligent packaging that may offer new opportunities for pharmaceutical industry.
