Comparative Analysis of Decomposition Methods for Multimedia Inputs Compression
Abstract
Image and video compression are essential for efficient storage and transmission in multimedia applications. This study compares Singular Value Decomposition (SVD), Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for compression efficiency. Each method is evaluated based on Compression Ratio (CR), Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), and Structural Similarity Index (SSIM). Results show that DCT is computationally efficient, DWT provides multi-resolution compression, SVD ensures adaptive feature retention, and PCA is effective for dimensionality reduction. The findings offer insights into selecting the best method for various compression needs.
