Abstract

This communication presents the design, modeling and machining in 5 axis of a turbine blade. It is modelled using the NURBS technique that approximates a NASA Rotor R67 profile. From the CAD design, certain characteristics have been extracted to proceed to its machining in a 5-axis milling machine. For generating the trajectories on the surface, a layered discretization technique was used on which the sequence of points and orientations of the spherical cutter were generated, which deals on the optimal orientation control of tools in 5 axes. After generating the G-code corresponding to the finishing process, the method was tested with a LAGUN-650 machining center with an additional 2-axis rotary table, on a prefabricated part by FDM. The result, presented in this work shows the validity of the methodology to machine blade surfaces with high surface finishing requirements.
